Rose Jean Nanotel
Charlottesville, VA • Photographed in Summer 2023
The Rose Jean Nanotel, nestled in the vibrant heart of downtown Charlottesville, embodies a seamless blend of historical charm and contemporary flair. My photography assignment for this unique hotel concept was to encapsulate the essence of its boutique rooms, the inviting common areas, and the quaint outdoor settings.
In each frame, I endeavored to highlight the meticulous restoration and modern design that define the Rose Jean experience. The absence of a traditional front desk and the autonomy of a self-guided stay are just some of the elements that make this establishment stand out, aspects I aimed to subtly convey through visual storytelling. The interior design, characterized by its clean lines and modern aesthetic, serves as a gallery for the original artwork of local Virginia artists. My images aimed to not only showcase the living spaces but also to give due prominence to the art pieces that contribute to the hotel's unique ambiance.
The Nanotel’s name, inspired by familial ties and an appreciation for European innkeeping traditions, adds a layer of personal narrative to the space, which I captured in the warmth and details of each photograph. These images are not just promotional material; they represent a visual invitation to future guests, offering a glimpse into a stay that promises both independence and artistic immersion.
